Two part online workshop

About the event

“How are we equipping our tauira with the oral language skills to be successful in achievement and building relationships while leveraging their culture, language and identity?”

Alana Madgwick and Del Costello pull together their collective knowledge to provide these two interactive workshops. As educators we all understand the importance of reo a-waha (oral language) but what are we doing to provide explicit, engaging and relevant opportunities in our classrooms?

Employers are expecting school graduates to be confident, articulate problem solvers who can work effectively in teams. We can not leave oral language development to chance for our rangatahi.

In workshop ONE Alana and Del will discuss the importance of creating space for the explicit and direct teaching of oral language skills across the sectors and unpack ideas as to how leaders and teachers can develop and embed systems that provide equitable access to oral language progress. In workshop TWO, participants will be able to reflect on their practice and pull on the collective expertise of the group to develop explicit acts of teaching across the curriculum.
